INTRODUCTION

We all lead busy lives and finding time to eat a balanced and varied diet can be extremely difficult however good nutrition is critical for strong and healthy hair growth and will also improve the overall health of your body and mind, which will benefit your hair and scalp even further. Eating plenty of protein, omega 3, iron, fatty acids and biotin will result in gorgeous thick, healthy and shiny hair.

Getting our full serving of fruit and veggies for the day can be difficult but smoothies has made that task a whole lot easier. A good hair growth smoothie will supply some or all of the following nutrients: Iron, Vitamin C, Protein, Niacin, Zinc and Biotin for hair growth.

Look for smoothies that are  made with dark leafy greens, berries, nuts like walnuts or almonds, avocados and flax seeds.

Here are some of our favourite hair boosting smoothies

BERRY BANANA BLAST

Bananas have a high content of biotin and contain potassium and tryptophan which help with stress.strawberries, Blueberries, and blackberries are all packed with more antioxidants and can provide a level of dietary UV protection for the skin and scalp. Antioxidants may also play an important role in cell repair (from damage due to oxidation and stress), which translates into rejuvenated scalp and healthy follicles. A handful of almonds or 1-2 teaspoons of nut butter are a great option to include as they are rich in fibre, protein, biotin and vitamin E, which are good for a healthy scalp and hair!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 ripe banana.
  • 1 cup of mixed strawberries or blueberries
  • 1/2 cup baby spinach
  • 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
  • 150 ml (5 ounces) of water or almond milk.

PINA COLADA

Pineapples are packed with vitamins such as Vitamin C, which protects the hair against radical damage, Vitamins B1 and B6. Along with the lactic acid and proteins found in yoghurt, these help to prevent hair loss by healing an irritated scalp and regulating sebum production. Coconut water contains potassium and other nutrients that nourish your hair follicles, making them strong and preventing hair loss. So, to maintain the health of your hair, drink coconut water daily. Bananas is the fruit that keeps giving, potassium that is, which if you’re deficient in can cause hair-loss.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 frozen Banana (for a sweeter smoothie use slightly ripened)
  • 3 Tablespoons unsweetened finely shredded coconut
  • ¾ cup frozen pineapple
  • ½ cup coconut water (or water)
  • (Optional: 1 teaspoon chia seeds)

CARVOCADO

Vitamin A helps to regenerate tissues and fight the dryness of hair and skin, and can be found mainly in orange and green colored foods. Carrots are rich in vitamin A and their natural  sweetness works great in smoothies. Avocado is one of the most complete fruits, and therefore should not be missing in our diet. They contain essential fatty acids, which prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. Milk is a good source of vitamin A if we digest it well. If not, we can replace it with yogurt or a vegetable drink.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 peeled and grated carrots.
  • 1/2 ripe avocado.
  • 1 cup of milk, or yogurt
